New analysis of LGBTQ+ inclusion in the agency industry

Propertymark is launching the latest phase of its research into diversity in the agency sector.

Last year it worked with the University of Surrey to consider LGBTQ+ inclusion within the residential sales and lettings industry via focus groups.

Now stage two - again conducted with the University of Surrey - will consider the experiences of agents who identify as LGBTQ+.

The primary goals of the project are to document the concerns of agents about LGBTQ+ inclusivity in the property sector; understand barriers to LGBTQ+ inclusion and good practice where it exists; and highlight the changes needed to boost inclusivity.

Professor Andrew King, who has previously undertaken extensive research and impact projects related to LGBTQ+ inclusivity in social housing, says: “It’s great that Propertymark has commissioned this research. We’re looking forward to working with them to better understand inclusivity within the sector and where necessary find ways to create meaningful and long-lasting change.”

And Nathan Emerson, chief executive of Propertymark, adds: “I’m pleased to see the team working with the University of Surrey on this important topic.

“At Propertymark, we’re focused on ensuring that the industry is inclusive and supportive of agents and customers from across society.

“This project will help shed light on LGBTQ+ inclusivity, an area that has received little research focus, and should generate insights that will enable improved practices across the sector.”
