A house in Queen’s Gate Mews, one of South Kensington’s most sought after addresses, has come to the rental market – with a spectacular back story.
The 1,540 sq. ft. two bedroom, two bathroom mews house was formerly owned by Madonna and ex-husband Guy Ritchie, with the latter understood to have designed the kitchen himself and used the property as a filming location for his close friend Matthew Vaughn’s iconic 2004 gangster film, Layer Cake.

Ritchie and Madonna lived in the property during the early years of their relationship, and the address later doubled as the London home of Daniel Craig’s character in the breakout role widely credited with leading to his casting as James Bond the following year. The Queen’s Arms pub, directly opposite the house, features in the film’s backdrop.
The mews also appears in Nicolas Roeg and Donald Cammell’s Performance (1970) and in The Bank Job (2008) with Jason Statham, making Queen’s Gate Mews itself one of London’s more quietly prolific filming locations.
Built by William Jackson in the early 1860s and originally used as the coach house/stable accommodation for the main houses on the surrounding streets, Queen’s Gate Mews contains 86 properties along its main cobbled through-road with four further cul-de-sac sections off Queen’s Gate Terrace, with the primary purpose of the Mews properties now a mixture of commercial and residential.
The mews, having survived a direct hit from a high explosive bomb during the Second World War, today forms part of the broader development of the Queen’s Gate Conservation Area, designated in 1969.
