Rental market strong this summer says board company index

Activity in the lettings market has picked up over the summer after a surprising lull in the spring, according to the latest data from the Agency Express Property Activity Index.

The board company measures market activities by the rises or falls in the number of To Let and Let boards it is instructed to put up.

It says national month on month figures for new listings ‘To Let’ were up 8.5 per cent and properties ‘Let’ up 6.0 per cent.

Observing activity across the 12 regions recorded by the index for the past month, eight reported increases in new listings ‘To Let’ and 10 reported increases in properties ‘Let’.

The East Midlands sat at the top of this month’s leader board with new listings rising at a very robust 46.7 per cent and properties 'Let' up 23.3 per cent.

East Anglia followed suit; new listings were up 27.4 per cent and properties 'Let' up 29.6 per cent.

The largest declines were recorded in Central England which new listings ‘To Let’ fell for a second consecutive month - dipping just 0.5 per cent - while properties 'Let' fell 11 per cent.

However, over a three-month rolling period figures for `Central England were better - up 3.9 per cent and 0.1 per cent.

Thats the consequences of politicians interfering with what they dont know and killing the PRS with landlords leaving the sector. There are less properties available to let and also the lack of demand for the PRS with the government promoting build to rent blocks of buildings which obviously charged a lot higher rent.
